Russ grew up in a military family and went to 13 schools in 12 years. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps upon graduation from high school. After completing his commitment to the Marines, Russ went to Lenoir Rhyne University where he played football and graduated in 1994. After the events of 9/11 Russ reenlisted in the Marine Corps and deployed to Fallujah, Iraq in 2005 as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom III. We are honored to have this true “American hero” residing in Hickory and with his three teenagers.
Prior to re-enlisting in the Marines in 2005 Russ hired a personal trainer to prepare him for the rigors of combat. But not until 2009 when he totally changed his diet did he see the physical change and he was very interested in helping others experience the same changes. His commitment to helping others reach their fitness goals prompted him to become certified by AMFPT as a personal trainer. Russ firmly believes our bodies adapt well to stress and that we need to mix up and change our workouts for optimal results. He also emphasizes long lean muscles by proper stretching and is a firm believer in 5-6 small meals per day. Russ will tell you, “If you get hungry, you have already lost the battle.” Through fitness training and proper diet Russ wants to educate and encourage others to become fit and healthy.
